About the Event
Presentation Title: Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation: Breaking the diffraction limits, IEEE-APS Young Professional Ambassador Talk (ASNT Golden Gate Section)
Speaker: Saptarshi Mukherjee, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Presentation Summary: Rapid evolution of sensor technology, computational resources, and data science has enabled advances in electromagnetic (EM) sensing and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques. These techniques have relevance for a broad range of industries, such as aerospace, civil, environmental, biomedical, and advanced manufacturing. Despite these advances in technology, there remains a crucial need for the maturation of characterization techniques that allow for the rapid inspection of low-contrast objects with fine resolution at large standoff distances, as well as over large physical areas. In this talk, I will provide a summary of different EM systems spanning from the static to quasi-static to dynamic wave propagation frequencies, for a wide range of diagnostic applications. The EM NDE problem is multi-disciplinary in nature and engages development of forward…
