Presentation Title: “Self-Employment”

Presentation Summary:  Have you ever thought of going into business for yourself so that you can look forward to the freedom and independence of self-employment? When one gets this thought, they generally put together a list of pros and cons. What they do not add to the list is all of the unknowns and unexpected items that come up. This talk will go over some of those unknown and unexpected items which should help people to better prepare for entrepreneurship.

Biography: Michael started in NDT at the age of 17 immediately after graduating from high school and has worked in various areas of the industry; ranging from fieldwork in refineries and power plants to The Boeing Company in Huntington Beach, California working on projects such as the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle.

At the age of 23 Michael had acquired Corporate Level III’s in PT and RT for Prime Wheel Corporation, and prior to his 10th anniversary in the industry, achieved his first ASNT Level III’s in PT, RT, and MT. At this point, Michael holds 7 ASNT Level III’s in: PT, RT, MT, VT, UT, ET, and LT. Acquiring this and ACCP Level III’s in PT, RT, and MT, as well as a CWI from AWS has been achieved of his own accord.

Michael has served as the Secretary / Treasurer of ASNT, is Regional Director of Region 15, has served through the chairs on the Board of Directors for the Greater Los Angeles Section of ASNT, is an ASNT Fellow, an ASNT Mentoring Award recipient, the 2015 George L. Pherigo Tutorial Citation award winner, ASNT Life Member, Managed Hellier in Anaheim, California for 18 years, and is now focusing his consulting business; NDT Enterprises, LLC.

Michael was the 2019 – 2020 ASNT President, 2020 – 2022 ASNT Chair of the Board, and is currently the Immediate Past Chair of the Board for ASNT.
